Is There Such Thing as a Balanced Life?

Balance is best reserved for the circus.

If you’re life is filled with “to do’s,” “honey do’s,” and “absolutely gotta do’s,” you are not alone. The demands keep coming yet 24 hours will forever remain the amount of time in a day to meet all those demands.

Entering the blog world has exposed me to so many wisdom centers in our world. Themes of struggle, disconnect, and overwhelm are flooding the internet.

People are searching for a balance of home, career, spirituality, adventure, challenge, fulfillment, and the list goes on.

I have read more tips and strategies about how to lead a balanced life that I’m ready to walk a tightrope. Read more

Sid’s Sense- What a 7-year-old Learned in Vegas

Shouldn't a 7-year-old be taught what NOT to do in Las Vegas?!

[If you read Part III of Sid’s Sense, you already know to beware of assumptions!]

The Velvet Booth

I learned powerful lessons in Vegas and it wasn’t how to shoot craps. I’m 7 years old. Too young to fully comprehend or appreciate the magnitude of these once in a lifetime experiences.  Nevertheless, the lessons remain with me to this day. Read more

Relief for the feet!  Flip flops are not just for the pool or beach anymore!

When your feet hurt, everything hurts. Having suffered for years with a messy foot injury, I know a good shoe when I FEEL it on my feet.

I thought I’d have to live in stability sneakers the rest of my life. While high heels are pretty much a “no way” for me, I have branched out to find comfortable shoes that are NOT UGLY!  Not a small task.

Traditional flip flops offer very little support in the arch and none around the heel. Things have changed and stores like The Walking Company and Zappos.com, now sell comfortable and stylish “European style” shoes.  I now own brands made in Israel and Italy. American manufacturers are catching on. You can now find entire sections devoted to comfort shoes in department stores like Macy’s and Nordstrom’s.  And they don’t look like something only your grandmother would wear!

Here are my top picks for fabulous flip flops for summer! They are pricey for “sandals” but your feet will thank you:) Read more

Cheap Man’s Massage

Is it sinful to dislike going to spas?

Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against spoiling myself. I’m also a very touchy, feely person so it isn’t the professional hands of strangers that bothers me.

If I need “body work” done due to an injury or pain, I will definitely go and reap the benefit.  I have been to 2 experienced massage therapists who’s hands worked miracles on my back and overtrained quad muscles.

Here’s why spas aren’t my forte. Read more

Using weighted balls

View previous posts in this series, ABsolutely Core Crazed.

A weighted ball, from 2 to 8 pounds, is an excellent tool to make core strength training more challenging.  It adds weight to the exercise but also involves balance and coordination.  I suggest using a regular weighted ball with no handles except for the last exercise listed where I recommend a heavier ball with handles. “I’m too busy.”

If being healthy is your priority, then time isn’t an issue. Time for other tasks is the challenge. If you don’t have time to work out, look at your priorities first before addressing anything else. Be honest. Only grief will come from a false priority list. Read more

Sid’s Sense- Let’s Make a Deal: The Empowered Negotiator

Negotiation is a process that requires a mindset, tools, and a defineable goal.

The Mindset of the Negotiator

The 3 key “negotions” (a term I coined to mean specific “emotions” in a negotiation):

Sincerity.  Nothing, I mean nothing, is more important in a negotiation than sincerity.  When you are sincere, you are believable.  You build trust.  You are not out to hurt or harm but to reach a goal.  You create an aura of team spirit with a win-win mentality.

Enthusiasm.  “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm,” said Ralph Waldo Emerson.  Act with enthusiasm.  Exude passion.  Show conviction.

Urgency.  Don’t waste time.  Strike while the iron is hot.  Urgency IS an emotion.  It is heard in your voice.  If you don’t think urgency affects outcomes, look at what happens after the 2 minute warning in a football game when the losing team is down by 2 points. Read more
